Dr. Michael New

Owner / D.V.M., M.R.C.V.S.


Dr. New is a 1987 graduate of Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Britain's Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the American Animal Hospital Association, AO/Vet International, and the Veterinary Orthopedic Society. His special interests include minimally invasive surgery, orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, and oncology. 

Dr. Rachel Berngartt


Dr. Berngartt is a 2001 graduate of the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.  She currently serves as the Chair of the Alaska Board of Veterinary Examiners, as a member of the Regulatory Policy Task Force with the American Association of State Veterinary Boards, as a public scientific member of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and is graduating from Seattle University School of Law with her Juris Doctorate degree in May of 2020. She has served 6 seasons as a field services veterinarian in Antarctica on Weddell Seal research projects.  Her special areas of interest related to companion animal veterinary care are behavioral medicine and internal medicine. She is an active advocate for the human-animal bond and animal welfare.  Most importantly, she is proudly owned by three dogs and one 3-legged cat. 

Colby Sanders

Lead Veterinary Assistant

A lover of animals and an avid Seattle Seahawks fan, Colby was born and raised in Juneau, AK. Having taken numerous health science classes while in school, working in the medical field has always been a passion of hers. She has worked at the Juneau Veterinary Hospital for three years now, and she's currently attending Penn Foster to further her veterinary technician career. 

Trista Lynch

Veterinary Assistant

Trista worked for nearly seven years at SEAAMC , where she was involved in numerous aspects of the practice, including reception, pharmacy, triage, and in the  kennels. She came to the Juneau Veterinary Hospital in June of 2018 to share her experience. She is the proud owner of her dog, Pyxis, and her cat, Timmy. 

Austin Godden

A transplant to Alaska from the east coast, Austin has found his niche in Juneau. He has been around the veterinary lifestyle since he was a child, and helping animals has always been a passion of his. A fan of sports, video games, reading, hiking, and everything in between, he finds himself strapped for free time regularly. 

Veronica Staggs

Veterinary Assistant

A graduate from California Polytechnic State University, Veronica moved up to Alaska to pursue her career in animal sciences. Having worked in Haines for Fish & Game, she now finds herself in Juneau. She loves her two Heeler pups, Ruby and Jade, as well as doing anything that will get her outdoors.
