Oncology/Chemotherapy

A diagnosis of cancer can be devastating. Juneau Veterinary Hospital will partner with you to help your animal friend fight this illness, through surgery, chemotherapy, or a combination of both.

We use many of the same chemotherapy drugs human oncologists do, but dogs do not generally suffer the kind of side effects, such as hair loss, that human cancer patients may experience. The dosages of chemotherapy drugs used in our patients are much lower than those used in human oncology.

In spite of this, some chemotherapy patients will experience side effects such as inappetance, nausea, and diarrhea. These side effects are usually mild, and easily controlled with medication.

Our goal in treating cancer is not just to prolong your pet's  life, but to ensure that they enjoy an excellent quality of life as well.
